Margot sighed, looking around the living room. "Herbert, are you sure this is the best location for your...experiment?"

Herbert, surrounded by wires and a strange metal contraption, didn't look up. "Relax, Margot. This time, I'm sure this is a great money maker!"

Brian walked in, skateboarding into the coffee table. "What's that thing, Dad? Looks like something out of a bad sci-fi movie."

"It's a spirit detector, son!" Herbert announced proudly. "I read about it online. Oakhaven is possibly haunted, and I will sell tickets for a ghost tour!"

Margot raised an eyebrow. "Haunted? Herbert, you know Mrs. Gable said she saw something, but she also drinks a lot of grape juice before bed."

Herbert adjusted his glasses. "Exactly! The sight of a purple ghost! With my spirit detector and the town's history, I will write all about it and the newspaper editor will publish me, for sure!"

Brian snorted. "You think people will pay to see...nothing?"

"They will pay to believe! Now, be quiet. I need to calibrate the thing."

Later that evening, Margot found Herbert asleep on the couch, the spirit detector beeping loudly next to him. Captain Hoppy, Molly's stuffed rabbit, was lying on top of the machine.

Margot smiled. "Well, at least something found a use for it."
