Herbert sat at the kitchen table, reading a newspaper. He believed in his own special prediction abilities. Margot walked in, holding Molly.
"Morning, dear," Margot said. "What's got you so serious?"
"I know who will win the pie-eating contest at the Oakhaven fair," Herbert declared. "My prediction is foolproof!"
Margot sighed. "Herbert, last time your foolproof prediction involved the lottery and we ended up eating beans for a week."
Herbert waved his hand dismissively. "This is different. This time, it's about pies!"
Later that day, Brian was at the campus of Oakhaven Elementary, trying to skateboard. Laura was there too, organizing a petition to save the old oak tree.
"Hey, Brian, watch out!" Laura shouted as Brian nearly crashed into a small group of kids.
"Chill out, Laura," Brian said. "I'm like, the captain of the skateboard team, or I will be, soon."
Laura rolled her eyes. "You're going to annoy someone if you keep skating around here like that."
At the Oakhaven fair, Herbert stood in the pie-eating contest queue. He spotted Mr. Henderson, the town's dentist, also waiting.
"Henderson!" Herbert boomed. "Prepare to eat humble pie... after you eat the apple pie! My prediction says I'm winning!"
Mr. Henderson smiled politely. "Good luck, Herbert. I'm just here to support the community."
As it turned out, Molly, who had come along, was the real star. She screamed when her beloved stuffed rabbit, Captain Hoppy, fell into Herbert's pie. Distracted, Herbert lost, and Mr. Henderson won.
Margot chuckled. "Maybe next time, leave the prediction to the professionals, dear."
Herbert, covered in pie, just sighed. "At least Molly is happy."
