Herbert strolled into the living room, where Margot was meticulously clipping coupons. "Margot, did you see the price of those new fishing rods? They're practically giving them away!"

Margot sighed, not looking up from her task. "Herbert, we talked about this. You don't need another fishing rod. You haven't used the last one in months."

"But Margot, the rate of inflation is crazy! This is a chance to get real value for our money! It's an investment!" Herbert insisted, puffing out his chest.

Margot finally glanced up, her eyebrow raised. "An investment that sits in the garage gathering dust? Herbert, your investments usually involve donuts, not durable goods."

Herbert chuckled sheepishly. "True, but… this is different! Plus, they have a special low interest financing available."

Brian walked in, skateboarding in hand. "Dad, can you stand here for a sec? I need to practice an ollie."

Herbert, momentarily distracted from his fishing rod obsession, puffed out his chest. "Of course, son! Always happy to assist in the pursuit of… athletic endeavors."

Brian stared at Herbert with mild exasperation. "Just… stand still."

Herbert stood as still as he could manage, which wasn't very. He swayed slightly, already picturing himself reeling in a record-breaking fish. Brian attempted his ollie, nearly clipping Herbert's leg.

"Brian! Be careful!" Margot exclaimed, finally abandoning her coupons. "Herbert, maybe stick to donut investments."

Herbert chuckled " Fine, fine, maybe you're right. What's the value of a fishing rod when I have such a great family?"

Brian ignored his father and went back outside to practice, leaving Herbert to get back at the TV.
