Herbert sat at the kitchen table, a half-eaten donut in hand. Margot was across from him, meticulously planning something on her tablet.
"Herbert, I need you to inform me about your plans for Saturday," she said, not looking up.
Herbert swallowed the last of his donut. "Plans? Saturday? Oh, you know, the usual. Relaxing. Maybe watching some sports."
Margot finally looked up, raising an eyebrow. "That's not what I heard. I heard something about...extending the garden?"
Herbert groaned inwardly. He'd hoped to keep his sudden burst of gardening enthusiasm a secret. "Well, yes, but it's just a...a vague idea. Nothing professional, I assure you."
"A vague idea that involves borrowing Mr. Henderson's rototiller and possibly digging up half the yard?" Margot pressed.
Herbert sighed. "Okay, fine. I had a little proposal to plant more tomatoes. Brian said he'd help."
Margot shook her head. "Brian? Helping? Herbert, let's be realistic. Can you at least track how much money you spend? We're already over budget."
Herbert mumbled something about the joy of homegrown tomatoes and the importance of supporting local businesses (i.e., the Corner Shop's seed selection). Margot just sighed again. She knew she'd be the one doing most of the work, as always.
