Herbert sat in his favorite armchair, attempting to occupy it entirely.

Margot walked in, holding a stack of books. "Herbert, are you going to help me clean the upper shelves, or are you going to become one with that chair?"

Herbert sighed dramatically. "Cleaning is not exactly my favorite hobby, Margot."

Brian burst in from school. "Mom, can I have a snack?" He glanced at his dad, sprawled in the chair. "Dad looks... comfortable."

Margot replied, "Later, Brian. First, homework." She turned back to Herbert. "And you, lazybones, up you get!"

Herbert mumbled, "It's a losing battle, isn't it?"

Later that week, at the Dog & Duck pub, Herbert was chatting with his peer, Bob.

"Margot is making me clean!" Herbert complained. "The upper shelves, Bob! Do you know how much dust accumulates up there?"

Bob chuckled. "My wife makes me do the garden. It's the same thing, Herbert. Wives!"

Herbert frowned. "There should be an exception. A 'lazy man's exception'!"

Bob laughed harder. "Good luck with that one, Herbert."

Back home, Laura was explaining something to Brian. "...and so, the freedom to express oneself, even if you are gay, should be a basic right."

Brian, distracted by his video game, just nodded. "Uh-huh. Right."
