Herbert sighed, looking at the pile of books Laura had stacked on the coffee table. "All this literary stuff gives me a headache," he grumbled.

Laura rolled her eyes. "It's called knowledge, Dad. And you might actually learn something about the evolution of storytelling."

Herbert picked up a book with a pained expression. "I think my brain is too old for evolution. It prefers reruns and donuts."

Margot walked in, wiping her hands on a dish towel. "Herbert, have you seen my glasses? I can't find them anywhere."

Herbert, still staring at the book, mumbled, "Maybe they're undergoing their own evolution. Transforming into… reading glasses."

Margot sighed. "Very funny. I need them. Dr. Peterson said my vision requires distinct correction now."

"Distinct, huh? Sounds serious," Herbert said, finally putting the book down. "Maybe you need surgery!"

"Don't be ridiculous, Herbert. I just need my glasses!" Margot exclaimed.

Brian walked in, juggling a skateboard. "Can I possess the TV tonight? Big skateboarding competition is on."

Herbert perked up. "Skateboarding! Now that's a literary work I can understand. It has chapters of falls, and an ending of victory or defeat."

Laura groaned. "Oh, Dad, please don't try to make skateboarding sound intellectual."

Margot finally found her glasses on top of her head. "Never mind. I can see perfectly fine now. And no surgery is needed."

She pointed at Brian. "And yes, Brian, you can possess the TV, but only after you help your father carry those books back to Laura's room."

Herbert stared at the books again, defeated. "I should have asked the doctor for brain surgery."
