Herbert was unusually enthusiastic about his new hobby: model boats.

Margot raised an eyebrow. "Model boats, Herbert? Since when?"

"Since I discovered the Oakhaven canal!" Herbert declared. "Imagine, Margot, miniature naval battles!"

Brian walked in, skateboarding under his arm. "Sounds… boring."

Herbert ignored him. "It's not boring, Brian! It's… tactical! Besides, I'm building a replica of a pirate ship. Think of the romance!"

Margot sighed. "Just promise me you won't try to invade Mrs. Henderson's prize-winning petunias with your pirate ship."

Herbert scoffed. "Of course not! Unless… she tries to charge me a toll to use the canal!"

Later that day, Herbert was in the garden, carefully painting his miniature pirate flag. Brian watched, unimpressed.

"You know," Brian said, "you should be taking a vitamin. All that boat painting fumes can't be good for you."

Herbert paused, considering. "Good point. You wouldn't happen to have any candy lying around, would you? I consider chocolate a vitamin of sorts."

Brian grinned. "Maybe… if you let me captain the ship for five minutes."

Herbert hesitated, then grinned back. "Deal."
