Herbert sat at his computer, muttering, "They're hiding something, I tell you!"

Margot, folding laundry nearby, sighed. "Herbert, are you on that forum again?"

"This is serious, Margot!" Herbert insisted. "The Oakhaven squirrels... they're too organized. And the price of acorns at the grocery store? Clearly, a conspiracy!"

Brian walked in, grabbed an apple, and eyed Herbert's computer screen. "Dad, you think squirrels are running a black market? Seriously?"

Herbert puffed out his chest. "They're hoarding nuts! I saw one climb a ladder to get into Mrs. Gable's attic. It was…dare I say…sexy the way he climbed that ladder? It's all connected!"

Margot facepalmed. "Herbert, that squirrel probably just wanted a warm place to sleep."

Brian snorted with laughter. "Maybe the squirrels have a secret forum too, where they discuss their plans for world domination... or at least, nut domination."

Herbert, eyes widening, typed furiously. "Nut domination! I knew it! I'm posting this on the forum right now!"

Margot shook her head, muttering, "I need more coffee."

Later that evening, Laura walked into the living room. "Dad, are you still on that squirrel conspiracy?" she asked, setting down her saxophone case.

"Laura, you wouldn't believe the evidence I've uncovered!" Herbert exclaimed. "They're using coded messages in the bird feeders!"

Laura sighed. "Dad, those are sunflower seeds."

Herbert paused. "Ah. Well, maybe it's a double bluff! They WANT us to think they're just sunflower seeds!"

Laura decided to change the subject. "Mom said to remind you to fix the leaky faucet. It's been dripping all day."

Herbert groaned. "But the squirrels..."

"The faucet, Herbert," Laura and Margot said in unison.

He reluctantly got up. "Fine, fine. But if I find nuts in the pipes, I'm blaming the squirrels."
