Vocabulary 113 - C1

Herbert hummed, blissfully unaware as he enjoyed a donut at the kitchen table. Margot entered, holding a stack of papers. "Herbert," she sighed, "Mr. Henderson is threatening a lawsuit!"

Herbert choked on his donut. "A lawsuit? About what?"

"The adjacent property line," Margot explained, "He says your new fence is encroaching on his land."

Herbert scoffed. "Nonsense! I measured it myself! Besides, that old Henderson is always looking for trouble. He's a grumpy old man."

"Well, he's not just grumbling this time. He's got a lawyer," Margot countered. "This could get expensive."

Later that day, Brian and Laura were in the park. Brian was trying a new skateboarding trick, while Laura practiced her saxophone. They heard shouting.

"Sounds like another clash between Dad and Mr. Henderson," Brian remarked, not missing a beat as he landed his trick.

"Probably," Laura replied, unimpressed. "Maybe if Dad had consulted the property survey instead of just 'eyeballing' it, this wouldn't be happening."

The next day, at Oakhaven Elementary, Laura found herself in the principal's office. Apparently, Brian had 'accidentally' glued Mr. Henderson's toupee to the flagpole.

The school administrator, Ms. Periwinkle, looked sternly at Laura. "This is unacceptable, Laura. Your brother’s actions have consequences."

Laura sighed. "I know, Ms. Periwinkle. I tried to intervene, but… well, you know Brian."

Back at home, Margot was on the phone. "...Yes, I understand, Counselor. We're trying to resolve this amicably..."

Herbert shuffled in. "What's happening?"

"I convinced Mr. Henderson to meet us at the Corner Shop tomorrow to try and resolve this clash before it escalates further," Margot said wearily. "Maybe if we offer him some donuts…"

Herbert's eyes lit up. "Now you're talking! I know just the right kind."
