Herbert ambled into the living room, a half-eaten donut in hand. Margot was meticulously arranging flowers.

Herbert: "Morning, love. Anything exciting happening today?"

Margot: "Actually, yes. I'm going to the town hall. They need someone, a trustee, to oversee the renovation fund for the Oakhaven library."

Herbert: "A trustee? Sounds...important. And probably boring."

Margot: "It's vital, Herbert. The library is in a delicate state. The roof leaks, and some of the old books are falling apart."

Herbert squinted at the donut. "Speaking of falling apart...is there any more of this maple bar?"

Margot sighed. "Herbert! This is about preserving knowledge! Remember when Laura was researching that project about..." she paused, trying to recall the details, "...oh, never mind. The point is, it's essential. And it's not about personal gain. If things went wrong, there could even be a prosecution for mismanaging funds!"

Herbert choked on a bite of donut. "Prosecution? Blimey, Margot, you make it sound like a crime. I thought you just shuffled some papers."

Margot placed the flowers carefully. "It's a position of responsibility. And I want to ensure everything is done correctly, especially after that whole fiasco with the mayor and the park fountain."

Herbert shuddered, remembering the brief but intense media scrutiny. "Right, responsibility. Good. You be responsible. I'll be...responsible for ensuring the sofa doesn't collapse from lack of use."

Later that day, Brian was attempting a kickflip in the park when he collided with a small, bewildered-looking gentleman. The gentleman dropped a stack of papers.

Brian: "Whoa, sorry, mister! Didn't see you there."

The gentleman, who spoke with a thick accent, gathered his papers. "It is quite alright, young man. I am merely attempting to decipher these... planning documents. I am a foreigner here and quite lost."

Brian helped him collect the scattered sheets. "What's that for? New building or something?"

The foreigner adjusted his glasses. "I believe so. Something regarding the… closure of a… dog park? It seems the residents are… unhappy."

Brian's eyes widened. "The Dog & Duck is closing?! No way! That's where everyone goes after school!"

Brian grabbed his skateboard. "Thanks, mister! Gotta go!"

He sped off towards The Dog & Duck, determined to uncover the truth. He knew his mom worked at the Town Hall, maybe he could find some help there.
