It was a normal day in Oakhaven. Herbert was at home, thinking about lunch.

"Margot, what's for lunch?" Herbert asked.
Margot, busy with Molly, said, "There are sandwiches in the fridge."

Herbert opened the fridge. "Oh! A sweet pie!" he exclaimed.
Margot sighed. "Herbert, that's for the school bake sale! Laura made it."

Suddenly, a reporter from the Oakhaven Gazette knocked on the door.
"Hello! I'm here to interview the family who made the prize-winning pie!" she announced.

Herbert gulped. He had already eaten a big piece. "Oh dear," he mumbled.

Brian, acting as Laura's assistant for the bake sale, saw the empty pie plate.
"Dad! Did you steal Laura's pie?" Brian asked, shocked.

Herbert looked guilty. "Firstly, it was very good. Secondly... I thought it was for us."

Margot shook her head. "Herbert! Now we have no pie for the bake sale!"
The reporter looked confused. "Well, this is an interesting story..."

Laura arrived home. "What's all the fuss?" she asked.
Brian pointed at Herbert. "He ate your pie!"

Laura sighed. "It's okay, Brian. I can make another one. Dad, next time, ask!"
