Herbert sat in his armchair, remote in hand. Margot was trying to read a book.

"Margot," Herbert said, "the price of donuts is going to rise, I tell you!"

Margot sighed. "Herbert, everything is more expensive now. It's the economic situation."

Herbert waved his hand dismissively. "No, no, this is different! Old Man Fitzwilliam at the Corner Shop said the donut flour charge is up!"

"So?" Margot asked, not looking up from her book.

"So," Herbert declared, "I'm going to claim a bulk discount! I'll buy every donut he has!"

Margot finally lowered her book. "Herbert, we can't eat that many donuts."

"Think of it as an investment!" Herbert replied, getting up. "Besides, remember the town council vote next week? I could win people over."

Margot shook her head. "You are incorrigible, Herbert."

Herbert grinned. "That's why you love me!"

Later, Brian walked in, seeing Herbert surrounded by boxes of donuts.

"Whoa, Dad! What's all this?" Brian asked, eyes wide.

"Your father," Margot said, walking in, "has a donut problem."
