Herbert was hungry. He saw a sign outside The Dog & Duck.

The sign said: "Free Pie!"

He went inside. Margot was already there.

"Herbert!" Margot said. "We need to talk about Brian's education."

Herbert sighed. "Later, Margot. I saw a sign."

"A sign about pie?" Margot asked.

Herbert nodded. "Free pie! I could kill for pie! ...Not really, but I really want pie."

Margot rolled her eyes. "Herbert, be serious. Brian needs help with his reading. We need to serve as good role models."

A young couple sat nearby, looking annoyed.

Herbert waved to the waiter. "I'll serve myself some pie, thank you very much!"

Margot said, "We are a couple, Herbert! And we should care about Brian's education."

Herbert ate a large piece of pie. "This pie is so good, it would kill anyone's worries!"

Margot took a deep breath. �?oHerbert�?� this pie is for the school fundraiser. You're supposed to *buy* it, not just eat it."

Herbert froze, a forkful of pie halfway to his mouth. He looked at the annoyed couple, then at Margot, then back at the sign. Maybe the pie wasn�?Tt so free after all.

The waiter walked over and quietly cleared his throat. The sign had a smaller print under "Free Pie" that read, "With the Purchase of 2 Entrees."
