Herbert sat in his armchair, beginning to obsess over the upcoming Oakhaven donut-eating contest.
Margot watched him, a slight frown on her face. "Herbert, you know your doctor said-"
"Nonsense, Margot!" Herbert boomed. "This year, I'm bringing home the trophy!"

Later that day, Brian walked into the kitchen to find Herbert meticulously arranging a variety of pastries on the counter.
"Dad, what's all this?" Brian asked, eyeing a particularly glazed donut.
"Strategic substitution, my boy!" Herbert declared. "Practicing with less desirable donuts to maximize efficiency with the good ones!"

Margot entered, carrying a bag of groceries. "Herbert! What did I say about all this sugar?"
"It's training, Margot! Think of it as...donut warfare! Against my own cravings!"

The day of the contest arrived. Herbert, brimming with confidence, took his place at the table.
The bell rang, and the competitors began to devour donuts with impressive speed.
Herbert started strong, but soon his pace slowed. He�?Td practiced so much, he was already sick of donuts.

The contest ended, and Herbert, covered in powdered sugar, watched in dismay as another contestant was declared the winner.

Back home, a dejected Herbert slumped onto the couch.
Margot patted his arm. "Well, at least you tried, dear."
"Tried and failed," Herbert sighed. "I deserve dismissal from the family!"
Brian snorted. "Relax, Dad. You�?Tre only notorious for eating all the donuts, not for losing."
