Herbert shuffled into the kitchen, already thinking about his afternoon nap. Margot was at the table, frowning at a stack of papers.
"Morning, love," he mumbled. "What's all this?"
Margot sighed. "These are the new regional planning documents. They're proposing a new bypass around Oakhaven."

Herbert grabbed a donut from the counter. "Bypass? What's wrong with that?"
"Well," Margot explained, "it might bring more business, but it also changes the whole character of the town. And they're making a big assumption that everyone wants more traffic."

Later that day, Brian was at the Corner Shop, trying to convince Mr. Henderson to sell him candy before his mom got there.
"Sorry, Brian," Mr. Henderson chuckled. "Your mom said you're on a temporary sugar ban."
Brian groaned. "It's not fair!"

At dinner, Laura was lecturing Herbert about recycling.
"Dad, you need to use the blue bin more often!" she said, pointing her fork. "The frequency with which you throw away plastic is appalling!"

Herbert rolled his eyes. "Alright, alright. I'll try to remember. Everything feels somewhat complicated these days."
Margot smiled wryly. "You think that's complicated? Try reading these bypass plans."
