Herbert was staring intensely at the television. Margot walked in, holding Molly.

Margot sighed. "Herbert, are you still watching that infomercial about getting rich with abstract art?"

Herbert, eyes glued to the screen, replied, "It's not just art, Margot! It's an investment! A financial incentive!"

Margot chuckled. "Right. And how's that 'grow your own mushrooms in the basement' scheme working out?"

Herbert shifted uncomfortably. "That's different!"

Later that week, Herbert was in the backyard with Brian. He had a shovel.

Brian watched him dig a large hole. "What are you doing, Dad?"

"I had a chat with a financial consultant online," Herbert said, wiping sweat from his brow. "He says the best way to pay off our mortgage is to bury some�?�'valuable items'. He thinks the earth will 'enrich' them."

Brian raised an eyebrow. "Like what?"

Herbert winked. "Like�?�that old toaster and those Beanie Babies you don�?Tt want anymore."

Brian stared at his dad, then burst out laughing. "You're actually going to bury them?"

Herbert frowned. "Hey, this consultant seemed very sure. He had a fancy website and everything!"

Margot appeared at the back door. "Herbert Walker, what is going on out here?"

Herbert stopped digging. "Just�?�aerating the soil, dear!"

Margot gave him a look that could curdle milk. Brian just grinned.
