Herbert sighed, staring out the window. "Getting downtown is going to be a nightmare today, Margot. Roadwork everywhere."

Margot, folding laundry, replied, "Well, you should have left earlier. You know how steep the parking fees are if you're late."

Herbert groaned. "Easier said than done. Molly decided 5 AM was playtime."

Later, Brian was attempting a new skateboard trick in the living room. Margot stopped him.

"Brian!" she exclaimed. "That's a precious vase your grandmother gave me. Please take that outside."

Brian rolled his eyes. "Fine, Mom. But if I fall and break something, it's on you."

Herbert, emerging from the kitchen with a donut, mumbled, "Someone's got to keep the rhythm going around here."

Margot raised an eyebrow. "The rhythm of what, exactly? Destruction?"

Herbert shrugged. "Life, Margot, life. Besides, the remote was under the couch cushions. It was inevitably going to happen."

Brian, now outside, shouts, "Hey, Dad! Watch this!" He attempts to ollie over a sprinkler head and fails dramatically.

Margot sighs. "Some days, I just don't know."
