Herbert was having a bad day. He felt homeless without his usual afternoon nap on the sofa.

Margot found him staring blankly at the TV.

�?oHerbert, are you alright? You look like you need a pill,�?� she said, concerned.

He sighed dramatically. �?oIt�?Ts just�?� work. Mr. Abernathy expects me to check the safety protocols again. It�?Ts a metaphor for endless paperwork, Margot! Endless!�?�

Margot chuckled. �?oWell, maybe a short walk to the Corner Shop will help. We need milk anyway. And Mr. Peterson, the clerk, always has a funny story.�?�

Herbert considered this. �?oAnd maybe a donut�?� or two?�?�

Margot rolled her eyes. �?oJust milk, Herbert.�?�

At the Corner Shop, Mr. Peterson was indeed telling a story. "...and I told her, 'If I see one more squirrel in my bird feeder, I'm moving to Antarctica!'"

Herbert chuckled, already feeling a little better. He loved Mr. Peterson's stories. Then, Herbert smelled them and instantly identified the fresh jelly donuts sitting at the counter.

Margot caught his eye. �?oMilk, Herbert. Remember?�?�

Herbert groaned, but he grabbed the milk. Sometimes, even the sweet smell of donuts couldn't beat Margot's 'look'.
