Herbert sat in his favorite armchair, attempting to read the newspaper. Brian was skateboarding in the living room, much to Herbert's annoyance.
"Brian, could you please not distract me?" Herbert asked, trying to focus on an article about donut sales.
Brian ignored him and tried to jump over Captain Hoppy, Molly's stuffed rabbit, landing with a loud thud.

Later that day, Laura and Margot were discussing a school project. Laura was worried about the local bird habitat.
"It's so important to protect it," Laura said, "otherwise, the birds will have nowhere to go."
Margot smiled. "You're so passionate, Laura. I'm sure you'll do a great job."

Herbert, meanwhile, had decided to buy a lottery ticket. He considered himself fortunate. "This is it!" he declared to himself. "I can feel it!"
Of course, he didn't win.

One evening, Laura was practicing her saxophone. The notes were a little off-key.
Brian walked in, pretending to cry dramatically. "Oh, the tragic sound! It's like an orchestra of pain!"
Laura rolled her eyes. "Very funny, Brian."
