Herbert sat on the sofa, remote in hand, channel surfing. Margot walked in, carrying a stack of flyers.

M: "Herbert, Oakhaven is having its annual Founders' Day parade tomorrow. Brian wants to go."

H: "A parade? Sounds like work. Standing, waving�?�"

M: "It's a town event, Herbert. And Brian is excited. Plus, Mrs. Gable says there's going to be an ice cream truck."

Herbert's eyes lit up. "Ice cream? What kind? If it's chocolate fudge swirl�?�"

M: "Herbert! It's for Brian, not an excessive amount for you. And it will be crowded, so patience will be required."

The next day, the Walkers found a spot on Main Street. Brian bounced with excitement. Herbert, however, was already sweating.

H: "How much longer? These crowds are excessive."

Brian pointed. "There it is!"

A float depicting Oakhaven's founding fathers rolled by, followed by a marching band. Then, disaster. A giant inflatable monster truck, promoting a local dealership, came lumbering down the street.

Brian screamed and covered his eyes. "Monster!"

Margot sighed. "Well, that was unexpected."

Herbert, ever the pragmatist, spotted someone he knew. "Hey, that's Dave Miller, the accountant, driving that thing! I didn't know he had it in him."

After the parade, Margot bought Brian an ice cream to calm him down. Herbert tried to get one too, but Margot gave him a stern look. His patience had clearly run out.

H: "It's not fair, he always gets the ice cream."
